Port Gibson 11/12/2005; Claiborne County. After the stop at Port Gibson, we swung by Windsor Ruins, and Rodney. Windsor ruins is a former plantation. It survived the war of northern aggression and then burned. Mark Twain had occasion to watch the river from the cupola at the top of Windsor, and it was a backdrop in Raintree County (1957, Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Cliff). Rodney is a ghost town. The striking part of Rodney is the cannonball that's still in the church wall. |
